on Tuesday March 6th 2012.

For the sixth year running, teams from Leeds schools have been invited to participate in the Tournament run by the 10 Rotary Clubs in the Leeds area.
The event will be attended by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Councillor The Reverend Alan Taylor
and Rotarian Willy Clark, the Governor of Rotary District 1040.
Hopefully there will also be appearances by local sporting personalities.
The teams will have to tackle a Task, of which they will be unaware until the start of the day at 9.00 am. This Task involves the design, development, building, and testing, of a model to perform a specific function. The model has to be built from limited resources, such as strips of wood, dowel, wire, cardboard, glue, string etc.
The teams have to produce a ‘portfolio' documenting their ideas, designs, test results and so on.
The results of their labours will be judged in the early afternoon, and then the prizes and certificates presented before the close of the event at 3.00pm.
The judges will be Rotarians and Industrialists with backgrounds in engineering, technology and education.
A testing, but fun experience is promised for all taking part - including the accompanying teachers, who will be invited to takle the task, and take part in Continuing Professional Development activities.
Rotarians from District 1040 (West and North Yorkshire) have developed the task to be set - for the whole country!
FOURTEEN SCHOOLS HAVE ALREADY SIGNED UP TO TAKE PART,
