The Deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Rotarian Michael Fox, in full dress uniform, presented the prizes:
The task was to design and construct a road bridge with opening spans across a river that allowed boats and ships to pass through. As part of the test the bridge had to be very strong and allow the passage of a heavy load. It was tested by passing the weight across, opening and then returning the heavy load. As usual, tems were given limited materials such as dowel, card and string.
